The Scart-cable is slowly showing signs of aging.
The technique that was developed twenty years ago is no longer
applicable for the needs of the new digital receivers and
high-resolution screens.
Two new interfaces are waiting in line:
Enter DVI and HDMI.

| The two new standard interfaces - that for now do not
mean the end of the Scart connection - but
appear more and more as an addition in new, more expensive
devices. DVI or Digital Video Interface is a 24pins connection that exists in two types: DVI-D and DVI-I. The D represents Digtal Only, while the I supports both digital as analogue reception. The other interface, HDMI, already has the attention of over 200 manufacturers in the world. It's comparible to USB. The connection consists of 19pins and measures a mere 21mm. No loss of quality All audio- and video-signals are being transported through HDMI without loss of quality. No less then eight audio channels can be sent and the bandwith for video offers enough room for transporting 1080 lines. The wiring between DVI and HDMI is compatible, but an adapter has to be used in order to succeed. HDMI can process all DVI-signals, but DVI can only process the video signals of HDMI. |

Less wiring
A second big advantage, next to the quality, is the reducement of the number of used cables. For instance, if you connect a dvd-player, settop box and digital television with each other you need to use up to ten cables to get the result you want. That number of cables can be reduced drastically. Secured material HDMI further uses an effective anti-copy security, HDCP or High-Bandwith Digital Content Protection. This was introduced to protect high-definition television against breaches of copyright. A tv set will only be able to show the coded images if the rights of the images have been paid. It's expected that in the near future all HDTV devices that carry the HD Ready sign will be equipped with DVI or HDMI. Ofcourse GOcompany has a complete range of DVI and HDMI cables.
